Durham, Connecticut may be a town of under 7,000 people, but each September, tens of thousands drive in for the annual Durham Fair. This agricultural fair is a combination of rides, farm animals, contests, and other family fun. Durham is easy to get to via I-91 in Wallingford and a trip up Route 68, so wherever you may be in Connecticut, you'll easily be able to stop by the fair.
Durham is also the home to the second oldest public library in the country, opened just two years after Benjamin Franklin founded the first in Philadelphia. The original library dates back to 1733!
Durham is a town of sprawling acres of land. It has become a wealthy Connecticut suburb and has many large, beautiful houses. These are houses that you couldn't find in a more urban environment because land is more scarce (and expensive) in those areas. In Durham, however, it is much easier to find a large piece of land to build a home on.
Durham moves at a small New England town pace, as you won't find large businesses and congested roads cutting through it. If you're looking for a central location in Connecticut without the bustle of an urban environment, Durham is a great town to settle down in.
