It's home to the first American submarine (The Turtle, invented in 1775) and the original home of Yale University before it moved to New Haven in 1716. It's Old Saybrook- one of the most beautiful Connecticut towns on the shore of the Long Island Sound.
There are many historical sites in this small CT town. Historical enthusiasts can spend a nice autumn day in Old Saybrook visiting these sites and taking in the sights along the coast.
Old Saybrook is probably best known for its most famous resident: the legendary actress Katherine Hepburn. She lived in this town for many years and the town is now planning to build a memorial to her. Plans are in place to renovate the former town hall building and turn it back into a theater, which was its first intended use. The theater will seat 268 people once complete and Katherine Hepburn memorabilia will be on display for patrons of the theater, which will be named after her.
If you're looking for a small New England town rich in cultural heritage, Old Saybrook is the right place for you. Plus, you'll have the added conveniences of being right on the water and along the I-95 corridor, which allows for easy access to the attractions of New Haven and the resort casinos in the Native American reservations.
